A blogger is a writer who creates online content.

Bloggers specialize in writing online content for personal or topic-based websites called “blogs”. Since many bloggers are in charge of their own website, the content is theirs to decide. Some will write on their personal thoughts and experiences while others make their blog specialized around sharing information on a given topic or interest area (music, gardening, traveling, etc). Others still will use video sites as their medium, preparing talking points for a video blog. As online sources increasingly become a dominant source of entertainment and information content in day-to-day life, blogging continues to be an excellent route for writers to get their work in front of readers and to support themselves.

Blogging has very low barriers to entry, especially with the wealth of resources now available for creating a personal website for little to no cost. Most bloggers begin their blog as an outlet for something they are passionate about or as a side project that aligns with their main career area, keeping it as a part time endeavor.

The most important skills for a successful blog are your writing skills, creativity, and ability to consistently curate captivating content for website visitors. While no educational degrees are required for this career, having specialized skills or studies in a particular area (like music) can make your blog a valuable source of information on that topic. Degrees in areas like communication and journalism can also be a valuable asset towards making blogging part of your career.

What are the education requirements?
