Staff Accountant

A staff accountant is responsible for the day-to-day tasks required to maintain accurate financial records within an organization.

The staff accountant is responsible for a wide-range of financially-related tasks and responsibilities which include reconciling account balances, reviewing and posting payroll, and assisting with the forecasting, tracking, analysis and reporting of expenses and profitability on a monthly, quarterly, and yearly basis.

Other tasks are reviewing, researching, and interpreting current and historical financial information; identifying any performance improvement opportunities; preparing tax calculations for payment to state tax and fee administrations; and completing bank reconciliations for various accounts.

In companies like record labels, they may assist in managing royalties for clients, preparing and organizing monthly costs reports with the finance managers and royalties team. In concert venues or performance organizations, staff accountants may be responsible for analyzing financial information including ticketing revenue, credit card processing fees, retail store sales and accruals, and reviewing contracts to calculate bonuses for various performances.
